Hooray, I'm installed. Now time to start generating some content! I'm leaving the below crap for my own reference. Let me know if you have trouble making user accounts for this site. I intend to allow registered users to edit pages, but I gotta read a ton of documentation to get things set up as I plan... Also gotta create "pretty" URLs without all the database crap.

Thanks for bearing with me.

Multilingual test:

  • CHINESE, simplified: 我是胖人
  • ??
  • Rant coming: Arrogant software, icons on desktop, quick launch, association, etc

RoryWiki Implementation List:

  1. Figure out how to UPDATE MEDIAWIKI, numerous security updates and new features added!
  2. Make URL tiny using Apache mod_rewrite (get rid of php & database bullshit)
  3. Replace ugly full domain (subdomain.domain.com) with proper (subdomain.org)
  4. Change /mwiki to /mw ???
  5. Switch "Main_Page" to "RoryWiki"
  6. Create an ontology/hierarchy for this Wiki to organize my ideas/writing
    • Make Table of Contents featuring this
  7. Protect key pages
  8. Add logo to top left of Wiki (Sho-Nuff added)
    • Personalize that logo somehow (hmmmmm)
  9. Add a favorite links page, news page
  10. Add an edit-help footer to each edit page (just like on Wikipedia): [1]

Meta Shit (for my own reference)

Because I'm running on a shared webhost with a few personal "add-on" domains, you can't imagine how much effort it took to get MediaWiki (the software framework running this site as well as Wikipedia itself) to change URL's from:

rory._MyPrimaryDomain_.com/mwiki/index.php?Title=Main_Page
to
rory.org/mwiki/Main_Page

Primary Reference: Manual Pages on "Short URLS"
Apache Reference: MOD_REWRITE
Apache Reference2: MOD_ALIAS

MediaWiki has been successfully installed.

Consult the User's Guide for information on using the wiki software.
